“It’s an honor to participate in Choose Love’s showcase in September as part of a selection of wonderful films centered on the voices and stories of displaced people and refugees seeking home. Executive Produced by Arian Moayed, The Old Young Crow speaks to the narratives of displaced Iranians and the importance of telling these stories in a time where people seeking refuge are being so relentlessly persecuted.”
Liam LoPinto, Director of The Old Young Crow

Being part of this event is a full circle for me, because over the years I've volunteered for CHOOSE LOVE at their pop-up stores in NYC. To me, this organization transformed the understanding of how we can come together as a community and see the change we are able to make with simple everyday actions. Today, more than ever, we all need to come together to do whatever is our power to assure everyone is able to have a safe sky over their homes. Art communicates with audiences past the language or cultural barriers and taps into the emotions that news reports can't unlock. As a Ukrainian, I've seen the 10-year war that Russia started on our land be in and out of news cycles. Now we are 2.5 years since Russia's full-scale invasion on Ukraine, and film is still one of the most powerful tools we have to connect with the audience to continue advocating for support. Film is a way we educate one another about each other's history, culture, and (especially in our case) about truth that is fighting against the propaganda that's been set in place. I am grateful to have my short SUNFLOWER FIELD be in the company of such wonderful filmmakers and be part of this empowering evening. -Polina Buchak, Director, Writer & Producer, Oscar Qualifying Woodstock Film Festival - Winner, Best Short Animation
IN PERSON FILMS
A note from the executive producer, Tara Louise
It started with an idea...
I’ve always had a penchant to work with artists internationally. It feels important to be immersed in different cultures and that’s what I love about living in NYC. My first job out of here was a singer on the Queen Elizabeth II. I was one of ten Americans on the ship. Later, I went to university in Glasgow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and now study regularly with a world renowned acting coach based in Ireland. Traveling fills my soul, and I’ve always been interested in the opposite of the norm, the other, the differences that make us so unique. Past benefits have included concerts for GEMS, Broadway Battles Bullying and the Faces and Voices of Recovery UK.
Choose Love is thrilling to me as an organization because it started out as an idea between two women who wanted to help a community of refugees, and now it’s a massive global organization, proving that small actions can truly make a difference. It’s inspiring. Working with co-producers Heather and Maricruz on this has given me hope. Working with these incredible filmmakers has given me even more hope in a time where the world could really use it. We need to come together and when in doubt, choose love. 💕
